story hour

Wednesday = Story Hour.

In fact, as you’re reading this (truth bomb: it’s an auto-post), Natalie and I are likely at story hour right now.

She is maybe her absolute cutest at these mid-week outings, shyly watching the other kids & scooting up close to miss Amy & copying the hand motions to the Itsy Bitsy Spider and Open Shut Them. It is all I can do not to eat her right up on these Wednesday mornings.

We try to arrive about 15 minutes early, so Natalie can play outside in the library’s amphitheater or in the children’s room at the library. Usually, though, those 15 minutes are spent sitting patiently in the still-empty story hour room, waiting for miss Amy and the other kids to arrive so the singing can start. She beelines for that room, and plants herself in the same spot each week. Once story hour officially gets going, she remains a bit clingy and shy for a few minutes before ultimately marching up front and standing directly in front of the room so she can be miss Amy’s partner for the remainder of the songs. If I’m really lucky, she’ll turn back to peek at me partway through and break out in a bent-double grin before beelining over for a hug.

Oh, story hour, I love you.
