steppin’ into 2011

When the Nana-sitter came down with a nasty cold, our plans for New Year’s Eve were put on hold. My poor mom had to start off 2011 feeling crummy, and we didn’t think passing another round of germs on to our household was a wise way to start a new year. So, we postponed our dinner at the Rhumb Line, and will just have to check out Belfast’s Celebration by the Bay another year. In all honesty, we probably had a better time just sticking it out at home for the end-of-year celebrations, considering our early-riser dictates that we have an equally early bedtime.

We spent the last day of 2010 snowshoeing down to the beach at Owl’s Head Light State Park. The weather was absolutely gorgeous, a practically balmy 40+ degrees. We bundled Natalie up in her new snowsuit and dragged her through the woods in her little infant boggan, which she tolerated pretty well.

We spent the rest of the day napping & eating & playing with Natalie. Since Saturday was deemed a pajama day, I figured we’d link up with Harper’s Happenings using our Steppin’ In to the New Year outfits from Friday night instead.

Natalie refused to cooperate, not only with dressing up, but with being dressed at all:

Despite our fancy going-out plans being cancelled, Moo and I still got dressed up to enjoy our takeout Chinese food, cheap wine, and even cheaper champagne. We laughed ’til our guts ached and snuggled up with ice cream until bedtime. We definitely didn’t make it until midnight, which is a darn good thing because Natalie chose to kick off 2011 with a 4am wakeup call.

The dress is another TJ Maxx find (Night Collections…?), the shoes are Franco Sarto, and the necklace was my grandmother’s.

Since it’s a new year, I guess it’s resolution time. I’ve found that I’m really, really bad at keeping resolutions, save for a couple notable exceptions, including the year I resolved to live more fully and have more fun (that year Mikey and I went to concert after concert, got married, moved to Maine, tried a new restaurant every week, and drank more than our share of wine. It was a great year.). I’m going to give it a go this year, though, so here are my resolutions for 2011:

1. Accept and move on from my sadness over having a c-section. You can read more about that here, if you’d like.

2. Devote more time to my marriage. Mikey and I have had a great year, and our union is probably stronger than ever because of what we’ve learned as parents, but I’d like to make a more concerted effort to be as much a wife as I am a mother. More date nights, more sitting down at the table for meals, more focused time on us.

3. The typical “get fitter” stuff. I am officially tired of looking in the mirror and thinking, “Gosh I look good for having a baby this year.” I’d like to eliminate the latter half of that sentence.

4. Walk the walk. If there’s something in my life that needs to be addressed, needs to be changed, I want to stop just talking around it and never acting. Be it emotionally, physically, socially, or professionally, if there’s something I can do to be happier & more satisfied, I want to make it happen. That includes as a blogger, which is a title I’m taking more and more seriously these days.

Wish me luck & what are your resolutions??

  1. Hi there- I just found you through Steppin' Out. Your little girl is adorable! Resolutions: I'll ditto your 3rd, for sure. I'm tired of looking in the mirror and doing the heavy sigh. And your 4th is a good one, too… Hopefully I can stick to at least one of those!
